Privacy Policy

What we collect

Gift Finder's quiz asks about the recipient's relationship to you, age, occasion, interests, and your budget. These answers are sent to our server only to look up matching gifts and are not stored or linked to your identity. There are no user accounts, and we don't save your quiz submissions.

Server and hosting logs

Like most websites, our hosting and database providers automatically log standard technical information (such as IP address and request timestamps) for security and reliability purposes. We don't use this data for tracking or advertising.

Feedback you send us

If you use the feedback form or email us, we keep what you wrote so it can be read and acted on. The form stores your message, which of the four subjects you picked, and the page you were on. An email address is stored only if you choose to enter one, and is used to reply to you and nothing else. We never sell it or add it to a mailing list.

To keep the form from being flooded we separately store a one-way hash of the sender's IP address, purely as a counter. It is held apart from the messages and nothing links the two, so a stored suggestion cannot be traced back to the address it came from. Ask us at support@thegiftfinder.net and we will delete anything you have sent.

Demo pages for shops

A few pages under /demo show a gift quiz built on a particular shop's own catalogue, so that shop can see how it would work. On those pages, and nowhere else on this site, we keep a count of three things: how many times the page was opened, how many times someone changed an answer, and how many times someone clicked through to the shop.

They are counts, not visits. One row holds a shop name, one of those three words, a date and a number. No cookie is set, no session is created, and your IP address, your browser and the page you came from are never stored. Nothing recorded there can be traced back to you, by us or by anyone holding the database, because nothing about you is written down.

Third-party links

Gift results link out to retailers such as Etsy and Walmart. Once you click through, you're subject to that retailer's own privacy policy, which we don't control or receive any personal information from those sites. See how this site works for more on those links.

Changes to this policy

If we add features that change how data is handled (such as accounts, or analytics that record anything about a person), we'll update this page. The counts described above were added on 21 September 2026.
